About

The RE:CARE Team

About the Team

The RE:CARE Project is led by researchers and personnel from the Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO), University of Alberta, and University of Malaya, in collaboration with Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp), and the Ministry of Health Malaysia. We also worked closely with care workers and advocates who believe in a just and caring future for all.

Who We Are

We are a multidisciplinary team of feminist researchers, project managers, policy advocates, and care workers. Together, we designed and carried out this project to better understand the realities of paid care work in Malaysia — and to push for meaningful change.

Our team includes:

  • Researchers and Project Team, who coordinated the project, ensured ethical and inclusive practices, and translated findings into advocacy and policy recommendations.
  • Care Workers as Research Associates, who were trained in research methods and led fieldwork, interviews, and analysis. Their insight and lived experience shaped every stage of this project.
  • Partners, Advisors and Consultants, including academics, gender experts, and allies from the broader care movement, who supported research design and validation.

How We Work

RE:CARE isn’t just about studying care work — it’s about doing research differently.

We believe in:

  • Participation, by involving care workers as leaders, not just subjects.

  • Accountability, through transparent processes and community engagement.

  • Equity, by centring those most affected by unjust systems.

Care, not only as a topic of study, but as a value that guides our work culture.
